Pellet Smoker Tubes

Add real wood smoke to any grill with a Kona pellet smoker tube.

A smoker tube is the cheapest way to get true wood-fired flavor out of a grill that was never built for it. Fill the tube with pellets, light one end, and it smolders for hours, feeding clean smoke into a gas grill, a charcoal kettle, an electric smoker, even a pellet grill when you want more smoke than the auger gives you. With the heat off, that same tube turns almost any covered grill into a cold smoker for cheese, nuts, and bacon.

What a smoker tube is for

Two jobs, really. Hot smoking: lay the lit tube alongside your food on a running grill and it adds a deep smoke layer to ribs, wings, brisket, or anything else, without changing how you cook. Cold smoking: with the heat off, the tube alone throws enough smoke to flavor cheese, nuts, salt, and bacon without cooking them. One tool, both jobs.

How to use a smoker tube

  • Fill the tube with dry pellets.
  • Stand it up and light one open end with a torch lighter. Let the flame burn for about 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Blow out the flame. You want it smoldering, not flaming.
  • Lay it on the grates, off to one side, and close the lid. A full 12-inch tube smokes for roughly 4 to 5 hours.

The Kona tube is 12-inch stainless steel in a hexagon shape, so it won't roll around on the grates, and it stands up to repeated use.

Which pellets to use

Any food-grade hardwood pellet works. Match the wood to the food the same way you would in a smoker: oak and hickory for beef, apple and cherry for poultry and pork. Shop our 100% hardwood wood pellets, or grab one of the tube-plus-pellets sets below to start with everything in one box.

Why a Kona smoker tube

  • Works on gas, charcoal, electric, and pellet grills
  • Hot smoking and cold smoking from one tube
  • 12-inch hexagon stainless steel, won't roll
  • Burns roughly 4 to 5 hours on a fill
  • Pairs with any Kona hardwood pellet

Frequently asked questions

What does a smoker tube do?
A smoker tube holds wood pellets and smolders to produce clean wood smoke, so you can add real smoke flavor to a grill that doesn't make its own. It works on gas, charcoal, electric, and pellet grills, and it can cold smoke cheese and nuts with the heat off.

How do you use a pellet smoker tube?
Fill it with dry pellets, light one open end with a torch lighter, let it flame for 5 to 10 minutes, then blow it out so it smolders. Set it on the grates off to one side and close the lid. A full 12-inch tube smokes for about 4 to 5 hours.

Can you use a smoker tube on a gas or charcoal grill?
Yes, and that's the main reason to own one. The tube makes its own smoke, so it adds wood flavor to a gas grill, a charcoal grill, an electric smoker, or a pellet grill when you want extra smoke.

How long does a smoker tube last on one fill?
A full 12-inch tube burns for roughly 4 to 5 hours depending on the pellets and airflow. Keep the pellets dry and the airflow open for the most consistent smoke.

Can you cold smoke with a smoker tube?
Yes. With the grill's heat off, a lit smoker tube throws enough smoke to cold smoke cheese, nuts, salt, and bacon. Keep temperatures low and let the food take on smoke slowly over time.
