Heart-Shaped Pizza on the Grill for a Romantic Valentine's Day Dinner

Happy Valentine's Day, pizza lovers. Today we're making an Italian-style heart-shaped pizza, perfect for a romantic evening at home.

Italian-style pizza dough (for high-heat cooking)

This dough is built to cook at high heat, around 500°F, for a crisp crust.

Ingredients

  • 500 g (17.6 oz) type 00 flour or all-purpose flour
  • 300 ml (10.1 oz) lukewarm water
  • 10 g (0.35 oz) salt
  • 7 g (0.25 oz) dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and make a well in the center.
  2. In a separate bowl, dissolve the yeast in the lukewarm water and let it sit about 5 minutes, until it begins to foam.
  3. Add the salt, olive oil, and yeast mixture to the well in the center of the flour.
  4. Using your hands or a fork, slowly mix the ingredients together until a dough forms.
  5. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8 to 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a large greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap or a damp towel, and let it rise in a warm, draft-free place for about 1 hour, until doubled in size.
  7. Turn it out onto a floured surface and divide into two equal pieces.
  8. Shape each piece into a ball and cover with plastic wrap. Let the dough rest about 15 minutes before using.

Assemble your heart-shaped pizza

Ingredients

  • 1 ball of pizza dough
  • 1 cup of your favorite pizza sauce
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Your favorite toppings (ham, mushrooms, peppers)
  • Cornmeal (for dusting the pizza peel)
  • A heart-shaped cookie cutter (or free-hand cut the pizza into a heart)
  • A Kona Pizza Stone

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to high heat (around 450 to 500°F). Put your Kona pizza stone on the grill to heat up too.
  2. Dust a pizza peel with cornmeal.
  3. Roll out the pizza dough into a large circle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  4. Using the heart-shaped cookie cutter (or your hand), cut the dough into a heart shape.
  5. Spread the sauce evenly over the dough, leaving about 1/2 inch of crust uncovered.
  6. Sprinkle the mozzarella evenly over the sauce.
  7. Add your toppings.
  8. Sprinkle the Parmesan over the toppings.
  9. Place a few basil leaves on top.
  10. Slide the pizza onto the preheated stone on the grill.
  11. Close the lid and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  12. Remove from the grill and let it cool for a minute or two.

And that's it, a romantic Italian-style heart-shaped pizza, grilled and full of flavor. Serve with a glass of red wine and enjoy the evening. Happy Valentine's Day.
