IMPORTANT...AVOID GREASE FIRES!
Grease fires are 100% preventable. Follow these steps to keep your grilling experience safe and enjoyable:
- Clean the Grill Regularly: Clean the grill interior and lid frequently to prevent grease buildup.
- Maintain All Parts: Remove and clean all parts regularly, including grease traps, grill grates, burners, and flavorizer bars.
- Check for Leaks: Perform a leak test and check all connections to ensure everything is secure and safe.
- Preheat Properly: Always preheat the grill with the lid closed for 20 minutes to ensure the temperature setting is not excessive.
- Manage Grease Fires: In case of a grease fire, turn the grill OFF and close the hood to control the fire.
- Trim Excess Fat: Avoid flare-ups and grease fires by trimming excess fat from meats before grilling.
- Limit Fatty Meats on Grill Mats: Avoid putting more than 4 pieces of steak or fatty meats (16 oz) per grill mat.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR KONA GRILL MAT LAST:
- Lid Thermometer Caution: The thermometer on the lid does not accurately reflect the temperature at the grill grates. Keep the lid closed for 20 to 30 minutes before use to accurately determine grill grate temperature.
- Never Crumple or Fold: Minor folds will not affect performance, but avoid crumpling.
- Recommended Searing Temperature: Keep the temperature under 500°F.
- Cleaning: Hand wash with soapy water or place in the dishwasher.
- Charcoal Grills: Place the mat at least 7 inches from the heat source. Do not place it directly on hot coals or in direct contact with flames. Use wood, nylon, or silicone-coated utensils to avoid damage.
BEFORE FIRST USE: WASH WITH WARM SOAPY WATER AND RINSE
Kona Grill Mat FAQ
1. My Kona Grill Mat Is Too Big For My Grill. Can I Cut It?
Yes! You can cut your grill mats with sharp scissors to fit your grill, warming rack, microwave, baking sheet, etc.
2. My Grill Marks Are Too Light... ?
Grill marks are a function of heat and time. If your grill marks are too light, increase the heat and/or let the food remain still longer. Remove water pooling around your items to prevent cooling the mat below 212°F.
3. My Grill Marks Are Too Dark...?
If your grill marks are too dark or you are searing the meat, lower the heat. High temperatures can lead to even cooking rather than distinct grill marks.
4. Can I Use A Scrubbing Pad or Steel Wool To Clean My Grill Mats?
No, we do not recommend using abrasive tools. Instead, rinse with warm water for 30 seconds and wipe with a soapy dish rag or brush.
5. My Grill Mat Has Rough Spots, Frayed Edges, or Is Stuck Together... ?
These conditions occur when the grill mat is exposed to temperatures over 700°F. Remember, the temperature on the grill grates can be much higher than on the lid thermometer. Use a grill surface thermometer or an IR no-contact thermometer to measure heat accurately.
6. What Foods Work Best with Kona Grill Mats?
Kona grill mats are great for all grillable foods like steak, burgers, and kabobs. They also work well for foods that typically fall through the grates, such as small veggies, seafood, and even pizza. Use them as baking mats in your oven for cookies, too!
7. How Should I Store My Grill Mats?
Store them flat or roll them up. Avoid folding or bending them.
